Your Place: Garage door balky? Some WD-40 won't hurt

Question: When the temperature is very cold, my garage door opens about a foot and then stops. If I disconnect the automatic opener, I can open the door manually without a problem. If I reconnect the opener, the door opens normally. Do you have any ideas about the cause of the problem and any possible solutions? Answer: The cold is probably to blame. When this happened a few years ago with my garage door, I lubricated the drive in the middle - where the emergency release is attached - and it fixed the problem. I think the original lubricant on the screw drive either wore off or got thicker because of the colder temperatures. I sprayed WD-40 on the screw drive, and the door opened just fine. Your problem may not be exactly like mine, but my solution is worth a try. Q: Within six months of moving into my home, I was diagnosed with asthma and eventually developed a sinus infection that recurred for 10 months.

Beltway ramp to Eden

Fifty years ago, when construction of the Baltimore Beltway tore through woods and rural villages like scissors through a knitted scarf, disjointed neighborhoods and dead-end streets were often left in its wake.

Eden Terrace, off the Catonsville exit ramp, is one such place. The name Eden still appropriately describes the area that dates to the early 1900s. Towering oak trees grow just feet from the Beltway's concrete barrier walls while winding roads snake through wooded properties with grand old houses.

Attorney Dick Piet and his artist wife Natalie McIntyre desired woods and privacy but with easy access to downtown Baltimore and Washington. They happened upon a granite cottage for sale there. Built in 1945, its 2-foot-thick stone walls are capped by a slate roof.

Concentration camps in America: The consequences of 40 years of fear

If you type the phrase "concentration camps" into your Internet search engine, you will find page after page of references to martial law and the construction of concentration camps in the United States on behalf of the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

A close examination reveals that many of these references lack sufficient facts to support their conclusions; however, taken as a whole, there is an abundance of factual information showing an alarming trend in the deployment of federal and military forces to restrain and detain American citizens.

Among the Internet sites are those listing between 600 and 800 locations in the United States where the government is establishing "concentration camps." Many of these are former or active military bases; however, several provide detailed information about their location and improvements, including maps, videos, and satellite photographs.
