The other teams with a losing record in one-run games last year were the Marlins, Astros, Pirates, Cardinals, Padres, and Giants. Not great company. For a full list, go here .

But why should we expect more of the same this year? Last year the problem was starting pitching and the bullpen, though 3rd in the league, had Wickman for most of the year. The Braves have addressed the pitching needs and the bullpen is more solid.

As for the offense, I think one thing that might help is not having Andruw in the lineup anymore. He hit .218 in 97 close & late plate appearances last year, including 22 strikeouts. The Braves as a team hit .257 in close & late situations.

And nobody would think that the Braves are "over-relying" on Hampton this year.

Text from Strickland's State of the State speech

But there are still lessons Ohio's pioneers can teach us.

The settlers of Ohio didn't choose this land because it was easy. Getting to Ohio required them to endure a long journey from the coast on a dusty wagon, or on horseback, or even on foot. By the time they arrived here, the shores of the Atlantic Ocean were many mountains, rivers and miles in the distant past.

For some, at the mouth of the Ohio River in Pittsburgh, the journey got easier. Pioneers on a westward trek could buy a flatboat there to carry them down the Ohio River.

Now a flatboat was just like it sounds – a flat, simple, barge-like boat. It had a small shed on top to provide shelter, and nothing else. No engine, no sail, no means of propulsion except the river itself.

From Steubenville to Cincinnati, these new Ohioans tied up their flatboats – not because they had reached the end, but because they had reached a new beginning.

Worse yet, the so-called "Quranic case" does not appear to have been an isolated incident. An FBI special agent recently told the Chicago Tribune that the case is only "a chunk of the puzzle" in the Bureau's larger probe into the extent of U.S. nonprofits operating illegally as money laundering fronts for terrorists—even as the U.S. government pours billions of dollars into fighting terrorism. Stefan Leader, author of a recent article on the subject for Jane's Intelligence Review, estimates the amount raised for terrorists by nonprofits could be "in the millions of dollars, possibly more." An exact amount, says Leader, is impossible to pin down because of the clandestine nature of the fundraising, and the Quranic case is probably just the "tip of the iceberg of other activities we don't know about."

Nobel Laureate Estimates Wars’ Cost at More Than $3 Trillion

These people have let paranoia and fear cloud their better judgement, and now act against even their own self interests, let alone the collective interests of the nation and Iraq.

They likely wouldn't care, you could rip them off for thousands more - and they will be for tens of thousands more. They won't care unless they actually had to go and fight/serve, and see the carnage for themselves. We live in a bubble nation, an island just completely disconnected from reality, and more than content being ignorant.
